Frequently Asked Questions about CLEAR's Summer Workshops

How much will it cost?

The workshop fee covers the cost of the workshop. There will be out-of-pocket expenses for accommodations and meals. You should be prepared to cover these expenses up front. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided; participants are responsible for their own breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Should I bring my computer?

You do not have to bring a computer. However, if you want to bring a laptop, you can take advantage of MSU's high-speed network and wifi access across campus.

Where should I stay while at MSU?

You have a variety of options, as outlined in the Accommodations section.

Is Owen Hall air conditioned?

New for 2017 - YES! The rooms we have reserved for this year now have air conditioning.

How can I get to MSU from out of town?

Lansing Capital City airport (LAN) is the nearest airport. The taxi ride will cost about $20 from the airport to MSU's campus. Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is about 90 minutes away. You can rent a car there, or arrange for shuttle service ( Flint Bishop International (FNT) and Kent County International (GRR) are both about an hour away from East Lansing.

Can I get university credit for the workshop?

No. However, you can get State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) from the State of Michigan, which may count toward your teacher certification. CLEAR offers these SCECHs free of charge to the workshop participants.

Can I come late / leave early?

While we understand that travel arrangements sometimes force participants to miss part of the workshop, please realize that arriving late or leaving early can be disruptive to the workshop, and also means that you will not get the full benefit of the workshop. Additionally, missing a portion of the workshop will result in losing eligibility for SCECHs.
