start quote The best part was the opportunity for students to interact with each other and older (volunteers, etc.) language learners. I overheard many conversations where students were deciding about future language study, future foreign language overseas programs, etc. I think this gives high school students confidence in decision making. end quote

MSU is the World!

Michigan State University is known worldwide for its commitment to international education in an era of ever-increasing globalization.  With more than 260 study abroad programs and approximately 40 languages offered on campus, MSU is one of the leading universities in the country for internationalizing the student experience.

On Saturday, April 17, 2010, MSU will again invite hundreds of high school students, teachers, administrators, and parents to campus to explore a world of languages during the Sixth Annual World Languages Day.  Free to all participants, this day-long conference will focus on the experiences that languages offer, and highlight the opportunities available for language and international study at MSU.

After an engaging opening plenary session, participants will attend a variety of fun and informational sessions throughout the day. See Activities and Schedule for further details about the day.

Free WLD Guidebook Available

The Center for Language Education and Research (CLEAR), along with co-authors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Minnesota, has published a free guidebook entitled "Celebrating the World's Languages: A Guide to Creating a World Languages Day Event." This free downloadable PDF walks readers through the steps of creating an event similar to the ones held at these three universities. It is intended for institutions interested in beginning their own version of this event in other states. Learn more and download the guide here.
