Dear CLEAR Community -
We continue to hear from many of our Rich Internet Applications (RIA) users and want to provide you with an update on the current status of the tools. The Center for Language Education and Research’s RIAs have been affected by a recent change in MSU’s border firewall rules. This has severely impacted audio and video recording and playback (the core features of our tools), rendering the tools largely unusable. We understand that as an educator and user of the technology, this is upsetting for you and your students. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this may have caused.
We have worked for several weeks, in conjunction with MSU’s IT community and MSU’s College of Arts & Letters, on a variety of solutions and in the end have reached the difficult decision to discontinue the RIAs and focus on continued development of a new set of tools with similar functionality that will best serve the language education community going forward. This was not an easy decision to make. However, underlying technological issues (e.g., aging server infrastructure, potential vulnerabilities and compatibility issues inherent in Flash) required us to act quickly.
As of January 18, 2017 the current set of RIAs is no longer available.
We will be curating a list of alternate tools which may be used in the place of some of the functionality the RIAs provided. As we move forward with developing newer versions of our most-used tools, we will provide opportunities for the language education community to engage in the design, development, and selection of future innovative tools that best serve your needs. We will be providing periodic updates and will be asking for feedback throughout this process.
More details and timelines will be available soon. If you have any questions or feedback, please contact CLEAR at email@example.com.
